Újfehértó is a small town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in the Northern Great Plain of eastern Hungary, with a population of 13,611 recorded in 2005 across 140.88 square kilometers. Its Jewish community had grown to 1,303 people, 11 percent of the population, by 1920. On May 17, 1944, around 400 Jewish families were deported from a ghetto established in the town to Auschwitz by way of locations in what is now Slovakia and Hungary.
