Urbino is a comune in the Marche region of Italy, southwest of Pesaro, with about 14,786 residents as of 2017 across 226.50 square kilometers. It flourished as an independent Renaissance cultural center under Federico da Montefeltro, duke of Urbino from 1444 to 1482, and its well-preserved medieval and Renaissance townscape, along with the University of Urbino founded in 1506, earned it UNESCO World Heritage status.
