Vadodara, also known as Baroda, is a city on the banks of the Vishwamitri river in the Indian state of Gujarat, serving as administrative headquarters of the Vadodara district. Once capital of the princely state ruled by the Gaekwad dynasty, the city retains grand palaces from that era, including the Laxmi Vilas Palace, and has grown into a major industrial, petrochemical and educational center in Gujarat.
