Vaitape is the largest town on the island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, with a population of 4,927, about half the island's total of roughly 10,605, and lies about 210 kilometers northwest of Papeete. It served as a United States military supply base with an oil depot and airstrip during the Second World War and today functions as Bora Bora's main transportation hub, with an airport and ferry services.
