Verona is the largest city in the region of Veneto in Italy, with 255,131 inhabitants, and one of the seven provincial capitals of the region and the largest city municipality in northeastern Italy. Its metropolitan area covers 1,426 square kilometers and has a population of 714,310. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Northern Italy for its artistic heritage, its annual fairs and shows, and the opera season held in the Arena, an ancient Roman amphitheater.
