Verpelét is a town in Heves County, Hungary, beneath the Mátra mountains beside the Tarna River, about 17.3 kilometers from the county seat of Eger. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, with evidence of Celtic and Scythian presence, and the settlement's first documentary mention survives from 1252; from the 14th century onward it hosted county assemblies and court sessions. It gained railway access in 1886 and was formally granted town status in 2013, and had a population of 3,738 at the 2022 census.
