Villarreal, officially Vila-real in Valencian, is a town and municipality in the province of Castellon in the Valencian Community in eastern Spain, separated from the provincial capital Castellon de la Plana by the Millars River. It has 51,367 inhabitants according to 2010 data. The town was founded with royal status by King James I of Aragon in 1274 during the Reconquista, later became an agricultural centre for orange cultivation, and is now also a centre for the ceramics industry; it is the birthplace of the composer and classical guitarist Francisco Tarrega.
