A city and the administrative center of Voronezh Oblast in southwestern Russia, straddling the Voronezh River about 12 kilometers from where it flows into the Don. It sits on the Southeastern Railway, which links western Russia with the Urals, Siberia, the Caucasus and Ukraine, and on the M4 highway connecting Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Novorossiysk; its population rose from 889,680 at the 2010 census to 1,057,681 at the 2021 census, making it the 14th-most populous city in Russia.
