Wałbrzych

Wałbrzych is a city in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland, seat of Wałbrzych County, lying about seventy kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Wroclaw and roughly thirty kilometers from the Czech border. It had a population of 108,222 at the end of 2021. The city was once a major coal mining center and is home to Ksiaz Castle, described as the largest castle in Lower Silesia and the third largest in Poland. Wałbrzych drew international attention in 2015 during a widely publicized search for an alleged buried Nazi gold train, which was never found.
