Wenzhou, formerly known as Yongjia, is a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang province, China, sitting at the lower reaches and estuary of the Ou River on the country's southeastern coast. Known for a strong tradition of private entrepreneurship and a large diaspora of overseas traders, Wenzhou is one of China's wealthiest cities relative to its size, built on light manufacturing, footwear and small-goods industries organized largely around family businesses.
