Werne, formally Werne an der Lippe, is a town in the Unna district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on the southern edge of the Munsterland near the Ruhr area, with about 30,000 residents as of 2024 to 2025. Established as a parish in the early medieval period on the orders of Charlemagne by Liudger, the first Bishop of Munster, it joined the Hanseatic League in 1470 and was shaped industrially by a coal mine that operated from 1899 to 1975; today an Amazon logistics center opened in 2010 is the town's largest employer.
