Yinchuan is a prefecture-level city and the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China. Its administrative area held about 2.9 million people at the 2020 census. The city served as the imperial capital of the Tangut-led Western Xia state from 1038 to 1227, and it now hosts the biennial China-Arab States Expo, making it a commercial link between China and the Middle East.
