Zakynthos

Zakynthos, also called Zante, is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and the third largest of the Ionian Islands, with an area of 405.55 square kilometers and 41,180 residents in the municipality at the 2021 census. Venetian rulers, who governed the island from 1484 to 1797, gave it the nickname Fiore di Levante, or Flower of the East, and in Greek mythology it was said to be named for Zacynthus, son of the Arcadian chief Dardanus; today it is a major tourist destination with an international airport serving charter flights from northern Europe.
