Zhangzhou is a prefecture-level city in Fujian Province, China, on the southeastern coast facing the Taiwan Strait, near Xiamen and on the Jiulong River. Its name comes from its historical role as the seat of the imperial Chinese Zhang Prefecture. According to the 2020 census the city had a population of 5,054,328 across a municipal area of 12,882.27 square kilometers, with its municipal seat in Xiangcheng District.
