Zoetermeer is a city in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, covering an area of 37.05 square kilometers of which 2.60 square kilometers is water. A small village of just 6,392 inhabitants in 1950, it had grown to 126,998 by 2023, the fourth largest population centre in South Holland after Rotterdam, The Hague and Leiden; though now a city in its own right, it began as a suburb of The Hague and remains part of the Greater The Hague urban area.
