FAQs

How did Tiszaföldvár recover after being left uninhabited in the early 1700s?

It was resettled from 1722 by Reformed and later Lutheran serf families after a 1711 report found it uninhabited.

According to the town's own history page, the village was destroyed again at the end of Ottoman rule and was resettled only temporarily in the 1690s. During the Rákóczi War of Independence the whole Cumania region, Tiszaföldvár included, was burned by troops in imperial pay, and a treasury report of 1711 describes the place as an uninhabited waste. After the Peace of Szatmár, 23 Reformed serf families arrived in 1722 from Heves county, Karcag, Kisújszállás and Kunmadaras, and Lutheran Slovak and Hungarian serfs came afterward.
