A group of 22 former sovereign states, empires, caliphates and dynasties that once existed in Asia but no longer exist in that form today, among them the Mughal Empire, the British Raj, the Abbasid and Umayyad Caliphates, the Seljuk Empire, the Yuan, Ming, Tang and Song dynasties, and the Timurid Empire. Each member state is attested by its own cited source and carries a SubLabel giving its historical dates and the region it occupied. Because member states span East, South, Southeast, Central and West Asia across many centuries, no single subregion group could hold them without misclassifying a state that outlived, predated or crossed subregion boundaries; this group is anchored under Western Asia, the subregion carrying the largest count of individually-attested caliphates and empires among its members, purely as a navigational home, not as a claim that every member state sat inside that one subregion.
