Baja California Peninsula

Peninsulas

The Baja California Peninsula is a long, narrow peninsula in northwestern Mexico, separated from the Mexican mainland by the Gulf of California and bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean. It stretches roughly a thousand miles south from the US border, encompassing the Mexican states of Baja California and Baja California Sur, and its arid, mountainous terrain includes stretches of the Sonoran and Vizcaino deserts alongside a coastline noted for gray whale calving lagoons and rich marine biodiversity in the Gulf of California, waters the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau once called the aquarium of the world.
