Cape Horn

Cape Horn is the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in Chile, marking the point where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet at the northern edge of the Drake Passage. Long regarded as one of the most hazardous sailing passages in the world because of its powerful winds, large waves and icebergs, it was a critical and feared route for sailing ships traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific before the opening of the Panama Canal. The cape sits on a small, rocky island rather than the South American mainland proper, and rounding it remains a celebrated milestone among sailors.
