Cerrado

The Cerrado is a vast tropical savanna region in central Brazil, the largest savanna in South America and one of the most biodiverse savanna regions on Earth, characterized by twisted, fire-adapted trees, grassland and gallery forest along its rivers. It sits at the headwaters of several major South American river systems, including tributaries of the Amazon, Sao Francisco and Parana rivers, giving it an outsized role as a water source for much of the continent. Large portions of the Cerrado have been converted to soybean and cattle farming in recent decades, making habitat loss one of the region's most pressing conservation concerns.
