A steep-sided, conical hill built from fragments of solidified lava, called cinders or scoria, that were ejected from a single volcanic vent and piled up around it as they fell back to the ground. Cinder cones are among the simplest and most common volcanic landforms, typically building to their final height within just a few years of eruptive activity.
