The Crimean Peninsula is a peninsula in eastern Europe on the northern coast of the Black Sea, almost entirely surrounded by the Black Sea and the smaller Sea of Azov. It connects to the mainland by the narrow Isthmus of Perekop, and the Arabat Spit, a narrow strip of land to its northeast, separates the Syvash lagoons from the Sea of Azov. It covers about 27,000 square kilometers.
