A closed depression in a karst landscape, generally smaller and more bowl-shaped than a full collapse sinkhole, formed by the gradual dissolution of soluble bedrock at or near the surface rather than by a sudden collapse into a hidden cavity. Dolines are the most common individual landform found scattered across a mature karst terrain.
