A long, winding ridge of sand and gravel left behind by a river of meltwater that once flowed within or beneath a glacier, standing as a raised landform once the surrounding ice melts away and leaves the former channel's sediment fill exposed. Eskers can extend for many kilometres and trace the former path of subglacial drainage.
