The Giant's Causeway is an area of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns on the north coast of Northern Ireland, in County Antrim about three miles northeast of the town of Bushmills. It formed from an ancient volcanic fissure eruption, part of the North Atlantic Igneous Province that was active in the region during the Paleogene period.
