Great Plains

The Great Plains is a vast expanse of grassland and prairie in the interior of North America, stretching from the Canadian Prairie Provinces south through the central United States to Texas, bounded on the west by the Rocky Mountains. Historically home to enormous herds of American bison and the Plains Indigenous nations whose ways of life centered on them, the region's deep, fertile soils were later plowed into some of the most productive grain-farming land in the world. Its climate is marked by strong seasonal extremes and frequent severe weather, including some of the most active tornado activity on Earth.
