An asymmetrical fault-bounded basin, tilted and dropped down along a single major normal fault on one side while the opposite margin grades gently upward with little or no faulting. Half grabens are the more common structural form in many active rift zones, producing basins with a steep, fault-controlled edge on one side and a gently sloping edge on the other.
