An elongated block of the Earth's crust that has remained relatively uplifted between two parallel normal faults, standing higher than the down-dropped graben blocks typically found beside it. Horsts and grabens commonly occur together in alternating series across regions undergoing crustal extension, such as the Basin and Range Province.
