A dome-shaped mass of glacial ice covering less than fifty thousand square kilometres of land, typically burying the underlying terrain's peaks and valleys alike and flowing outward from a central high point in all directions. Ice caps are smaller than ice sheets but larger and more extensive than a typical valley or cirque glacier.
