Llanos

The Llanos is a vast tropical grassland plain in northern South America, spanning eastern Colombia and western Venezuela between the Andes and the Orinoco River. Its seasonal climate alternates between a prolonged rainy season, during which much of the plain floods, and a pronounced dry season, and this cycle shapes both its grassland and gallery-forest ecosystems and the cattle-ranching culture, associated with the llanero cowboy tradition, that has dominated the region for centuries. The Llanos supports rich wildlife populations, including capybara, anaconda and numerous wading bird species.
