The Peloponnese is a peninsula and geographic region in southern Greece, forming the southernmost part of the Balkan Peninsula and mainland Greece's southern extremity. It covers about 21,549.6 square kilometers and is connected to the rest of the Greek mainland by the narrow Isthmus of Corinth. Its interior is mountainous, with lowlands in the west and south and four smaller peninsulas reaching further south into the surrounding seas.
