A piece of land that projects out into a body of water and is connected to the mainland by a neck of land, surrounded by water on all but one side. Peninsulas range enormously in scale, from a small coastal spit only a few hundred metres across to a subcontinental landmass such as the Arabian or Indian Peninsula.
