A tall, slender, sharply pointed rock formation or mountain top, standing distinctly above its surroundings, typically the product of differential erosion stripping away softer rock from around a harder, more resistant core. Pinnacles occur both as isolated rock towers and as the topmost spires of jagged mountain ridgelines.
