The Rhine Gorge is the deep valley the Rhine follows through its Middle Rhine section between Bingen and Bonn in Germany, cut by erosion at roughly the same rate as the region's own tectonic uplift, so the river has stayed close to its original level while the surrounding land rose around it. The gorge reaches about 130 meters from the top of its rock walls down to the average water line.
