An accumulation of loose, angular rock fragments piled up at the base of a cliff or steep slope, built as repeated rockfall and mechanical weathering shed material from the rock face above faster than it can be removed. A scree slope's angle typically settles near the natural angle of repose for loose rock, the steepest slope the fragments can maintain without continuing to slide.
