The Upper Peninsula of Michigan, also called Upper Michigan or the U.P., is the northern and higher of the two landmasses making up the U.S. state of Michigan. It is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, and is bounded by Lake Superior to the north and Lake Huron and Lake Michigan along its south, with the St. Marys River along its east. It covers about 36,139 square miles.
