V-Shaped Valley

A narrow valley with steep sides that converge toward a thin channel at its base, the characteristic profile cut by a river actively downcutting through its bed faster than its banks can widen, typical of a stream's upper course in mountainous terrain. It contrasts with the broader, flatter-floored valley that forms once a river reaches a lower gradient and begins to meander.
