An open, elevated grassland or lightly wooded plain covering much of the interior plateau of southern Africa, ranging from grass-dominated highveld at higher elevation to more shrub- and tree-dotted bushveld at lower, warmer elevations. The term is the regional name for southern Africa's counterpart to the grassland and savanna landforms found on other continents.
