National Park

IUCN Category II: large natural or near-natural areas set aside to protect large-scale ecological processes, along with the complement of species and ecosystems characteristic of the area, which also provide a foundation for environmentally and culturally compatible spiritual, scientific, educational, recreational and visitor opportunities. Belongs here: a legally designated park whose governing body manages it primarily for ecosystem protection and public recreation and education together, the single most common protected-area designation worldwide. Does not belong here: a small, isolated natural feature protected chiefly for its own scientific or scenic value, held under Natural Monument or Feature.
