Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park

Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park is an Italian national park established in 1923, making it the second oldest national park in Italy and the oldest in the Apennine Mountains. Most of its territory lies in the Abruzzo region, with smaller portions in Lazio and Molise, and its headquarters sit in Pescasseroli in the Province of L'Aquila. The park covers about 496.80 square kilometers and plays an important role in preserving species such as the Italian wolf, the Abruzzo chamois, and the Marsican brown bear, alongside red deer, roe deer, wild boar and the white-backed woodpecker. Roughly two thirds of the protected area is beech forest, with silver birch and black and mountain pines also present.
