Mount Longonot National Park

Mount Longonot National Park protects the stratovolcano Mount Longonot, southeast of Lake Naivasha in Kenya's Great Rift Valley about 60 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. The volcano, whose Maasai name means mountains of many spurs, is thought to have last erupted in the 1860s and holds an 8 by 12 kilometer caldera with a 1.8 kilometer crater at its summit, where a forest of small trees and steam vents cover the crater floor; a 3.1 kilometer trail climbs to the rim, continuing in a 7.2 kilometer loop around the crater. The park supports plains zebra, giraffe, Thomson's gazelle, buffalo and hartebeest.
