Bieszczady National Park lies in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in the extreme southeastern corner of Poland. Established in 1973 at an original area of under 60 square kilometers and enlarged several times since to about 292 square kilometers, it is the third largest national park in Poland and protects the highest part of the Polish Bieszczady Mountains, including Tarnica, the range highest peak at 1,346 meters. The park became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021.
