Tatra National Park protects the Polish part of the Tatra Mountains, on the border with Slovakia in the Tatra County of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, with its headquarters in Zakopane. Established in 1954 and covering about 212 square kilometers across the High Tatras and Western Tatras, it includes Rysy, the highest peak in Poland at 2,499 meters, and has been a UNESCO transboundary biosphere reserve with the adjoining Slovak park since 1992.
