Llullaillaco National Park, in the Antofagasta Region of Chile roughly 275 kilometers southeast of Antofagasta near the Argentine border, was established in 1995 and covers about 2,687 square kilometers of high semi desert plains around the Llullaillaco volcano. A stretch of the historic Inca road system crosses its Rio Frio area, its 126 documented plant species include 21 endemics of the central Andean dry puna, and access is restricted to scientific expeditions and volcano ascents authorized by CONAF.
