Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, east of Copiapo in the Atacama Region of Chile, was established in 1994 and covers about 591 square kilometers in two zones dominated by the Nevado Tres Cruces volcano, one holding part of the Salar de Maricunga salt flat and the Laguna Santa Rosa, the other the Laguna del Negro Francisco. Its wetlands are recognized under the Ramsar Convention as habitat for Andean flamingos and vicunas, and CONAF maintains two refuge stations for visitors during the park open season from October to April.
