Chirripo National Park, established on August 19, 1975 across the San Jose, Limon, and Cartago provinces of Costa Rica, covers about 508 square kilometers and is named for Cerro Chirripo, which at 3,821 meters is the highest mountain in the country. The IUCN category II park forms part of the Talamanca Range La Amistad Reserves and La Amistad National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its exceptional biological diversity, and is reached from the nearby city of San Isidro del General.
