La Amistad International Park is a transboundary protected area in the Cordillera de Talamanca, jointly managed by Costa Rica and Panama, and known as La Amistad National Park before the two countries formalized the shared arrangement. Formally established on 6 September 1988, it protects a major tract of tropical forest wilderness noted for its exceptional biodiversity and endemism, including Cerro Chirripo, the highest point in Costa Rica. Its core covers about 239 square kilometers, though the surrounding reserves it links to bring the wider protected complex to roughly 401,000 hectares, and the Talamanca Range portion has carried UNESCO World Heritage status since 1983.
