Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park

Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park protects a cluster of four small coral islands off Kenya's southern coast near Shimoni and Wasini Island in Kwale County, established in 1978 as Kenya's first marine national park. It combines the strictly protected 28 square kilometer Kisite park with the adjoining 11 square kilometer Mpunguti reserve, together covering about 39 square kilometers of reef. The park holds around 250 recorded fish species, some 70 resident dolphins, 56 genera of coral and sea turtles, and in December 2021 received a gold level Blue Park Award from the Marine Conservation Institute for its marine protection standards.
