Augrabies Falls National Park

Augrabies Falls National Park lies in South Africa's Northern Cape province, about 120 kilometers west of Upington, and was established in 1966 to protect the roughly 60 meter Augrabies Falls on the Orange River. Covering about 820 square kilometers, the park includes a granite gorge that runs for 18 kilometers and averages 240 meters deep, carved by the river's erosion. Its arid landscape is marked by distinctive quiver trees and supports springbok, gemsbok, the endangered south-central black rhinoceros, and rare Cape clawless otters, along with heritage sites of the original Khoekhoe and San inhabitants.
