Chyulu Hills National Park

Chyulu Hills National Park protects a young volcanic mountain range in Makueni County, southeastern Kenya, gazetted in 1983 and covering about 741 square kilometers. The hills form a roughly 100 kilometer volcanic field of small flows and cones that began forming about 1.4 million years ago, with a highest peak of 2,188 meters, and contain the Leviathan Cave, at about 11 kilometers one of the longest lava tubes in Africa. The park has no permanent rivers, but its rainfall feeds the Tsavo and Galana rivers and Mzima Springs, and supports eastern black rhinoceros, Cape buffalo, elephant, Masai giraffe, leopard, lion, wildebeest, Grant's zebra and cheetah.
